Making God Laugh Opens Next Week

A Brand New Comedy About Family

Woody Allen once famously observed that if you want to make God laugh, you tell him your plans. That’s the idea behind the new comedy coming to the VK Garage Stage as the fourth production of Playhouse 2000’s Season 2017.

Making God Laugh is a fresh new comedy about family life penned by playwright Sean Grennan. In it, we meet “Ruthie” and “Bill,” parents of three grown children. Over the course of four decades, we see how their best-laid plans are dashed by hilarious and sometimes poignant circumstances.

“Ruthie” and “Bill” are played by P2K veterans Barbara French and Michael Stanard. Their three children are “Richard” – the oldest and first to adopt the latest trends – played by Derek Meier; “Maddie” – the somewhat rebellious middle daughter – played by Katie Bishop; and “Thomas” – the “good” son – played by Brandon Cunningham.

The show has been directed by Amy Goodyear, director of last year’s hit production of And Then There Were None, in tandem with P2K Founding Director Susan Neely Balentine. Kerri Sparkman is the Stage Manager.

Making God Laugh will be presented at the VK Garage Theater for three weekends beginning August 18th. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30, with Sunday Matinees on August 27 and September 9 at 2:30. All tickets are $20, and seating is General Admission.
