COMING SOON! Shakespeare In The Park – As You Like It

The City of Kerrville and Playhouse 2000 have once again joined forces to present “Shakespeare In the Park,” a free, family-friendly event celebrating both The Bard and the blessings of Kerrville’s outstanding outdoors.

This year’s presentation of As You Like It is sponsored by the Kerrville Public Utility Board – KPUB.

Shakespeare In The Park is presented on the stage near the Sidney Baker Street bridge in Louise Hays park.  Performances this year will be Friday and Saturday, June 1st and 2nd beginning at 8:00.

In As You Like It, we follow the lovers Rosalind and Orlando, who, having been forced into exile in the Forest of Arden, become entangled in a beguiling game of love and mistaken identity. Challenging the traditional rules of romance, the play reflects on how confusing yet enjoyable life can be.

Under the direction of Sarah Distel, the cast of As You Like Itfeatures Jessica Sturm as “Rosalind,” and Katie Bishop as “Orlando,” with Mitch Mitchell as “Touchstone,” Heather Cunningham as “Celia,” Derek Meier as “Duke Senior,” and Chris Distelas “Duke Frederick.”
The cast also includes Mark Sturm as “Adam,” Colton Van Fossen as “Corin,” Jeremy Sosaas “Amiens” and newcomer Martin R. Vidal in the role of “Jacques.”
Along with the spoken roles, a group of P2K Youth Theater alumni including Suz RyeElla O’DonnellNorah DistelElyse Brooks and Phoenix Miller will provide a “living forest” and other touches throughout the play.
Original music for As You Like It has been created specifically for this production by Joan Bryson. Joan’s songs are sung and played by cast members at appropriate times throughout the evening.

Admission to enjoy “Shakespeare in The Park” is completely free, and picnics, blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. As does most Shakespeare, As You Like It includes some adult ideas, but this presentation is fine for the entire family.

Join us, Friday or Saturday, June 1st or 2nd at 8:00 in Louise Hays Park for an outstanding evening of comedy under the stars.
