New Romantic Comedy: Things My Mother Taught Me LAST WEEKEND

The new Romantic Comedy playing in the VK Garage Theater enjoyed enthusiastic full houses when it opened last weekend. Shows concludes this weekend.

This cast of seven – which also includes Barbara FrenchDana WilliamsCarl SchuppBrian Schuyler, andJustin Radkiewicz – have wonderful comic sensibilities and natural stage chemistry that makes Things My Mother Taught Me a funny but warm evening that is leaving audiences smiling all the way home.
You have just three more chances to see this show in the VK Garage Theater now through February 17.

FREE preview Thursday at 7:30 Tennessee Williams’ The Pretty Trap

Texas Nonprofit Theatres will host their Quad III One-Act-Play Festival at The Cailloux Theater on Saturday, February 2nd.
Quad Fest is the first step in the bi-annual series of festivals across the United States managed by the American Association of Community Theatres (AACT) known as AACT/Fest.  Theaters advancing from this Quad will join with eight other companies across the state at Tex Fest in April.  From there, plays can advance to the Regional Festival and even the National Festival, which will be held in Gettysburg, PA, this summer.  (For details on participating companies and titles, see “Theater News” below.)
P2K’s entry at Quad Fest is a little known sketch created by Tennessee Williams while he was working on the play that would become the masterpiece The Glass Menagerie.
In The Pretty Trap, Williams creates an alternate version of the third act of that larger play, one in which the ending is completely different – and happy!
The cast includes Amy Goodyear as “Amanda Wingfield,” Laina Lowry as “Laura,” her shy daughter, newcomer Jacob Grona as son “Tom,” and Jeremy Sosa as “Jim,” the Gentleman Caller who changes everything.
You’re invited to a FREE PREVIEW of this 40-minute play on THURSDAY, JANUARY 31st AT 7:30 in The Cailloux Theater.
This preview will give the cast and crew of the show a chance to present the play before heading into the competition cycle – it’s a big help, and we think you’ll enjoy it too!

The VK Garage Theater

Season 2019 Announced!!

All of us here at Playhouse 2000 are excited to reveal the plans we’ve laid out for a very busy 2019 Season.
Read on to discover what awaits,
and start making plans to enjoy live theater all year!

The new year will begin with a celebration of the old one. The annual “Earnest T. Player

Awards Ceremony” will celebrate the successes of 2018, which was P2K’s twentieth anniversary season, on Saturday, January 12th.

The first production in Season 2019, opening on February 1st in the VK Garage Theater,

is Things My Mother Taught Me, a brand new Romantic Comedy by Katherine DeSavino. A perfect ‘date night’ for Valentine’s Day, this play is a heartwarming homage to the institution of marriage.

The Cailloux Theater will play host to one of four“Quad Fest” one-act-play festivals on Saturday, February 2nd.Part of the

national American Association of Community Theater Festivals – known as AACTFest – this event, sponsored by Texas Nonprofit Theaters, will showcase four companies from South Central Texas. The full schedule of shows and times will be available soon at

The P2K Youth Theater is next in the 2019 calendar, with their production of Christopher Sergel’s adaptation of The Outsiders, a

classic novel for young people by S. E. Hinton. This show will be seen on March 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the VK Garage Theater.

A little later in March, P2K will host our annual “Dinner With the Stars” gala, this year featuring highlights from the popular musical The Man of LaMancha starring Kit Werlein and Susan Neely Balentine, both reprising their roles from the P2K production of 2003. Cocktails, dinner, auctions, entertainment and after-party are included with each ticket to this special fundraiser.

Then, P2K joins forces with Schreiner University’s Music and Theater Departments to present a

lavish production of the modern Broadway Musical Footloose. Based on the movie of the same name, and featuring a rock-and-roll score chock full of hits, “Footloose” will include a large cast of all ages representing the children and adults of a small farming town that has banned dancing. The warm and uplifting story that emerges will thrill audiences of all ages, too.

Footloose will hold open auditions on February 3 and 4, and will leap to life on the Cailloux Theater stage March 28 to April 13.

May and June will celebrate The Bard of Avon, as both the P2K Youth Theater and the annual Shakespeare In The Park project come to the stage. First, the Youth present Romeo & Winifred a parody by Charlie Lovett, on May 3, 4 and 5. Then, SITP’s offering of The Merry Wives of Windsor will enliven Louse Hays Park on June 7 and 8, with free admission.

A quirky modern comedy is next in Season 2019, when Wendy MacLeod’s new play Women In

Jeopardy! comes to the VK Garage Theater, June 14 to 30. A somewhat ‘edgy’ comedy that puts women front and center to solve a murder mystery, the show offers lots of laughs for adventurous audiences.

The annual P2K Youth Summer Musical Theater

Camp will spend six weeks – from June 17 to July 25 – preparing to present a fully-realized production of Disneys Beauty and the Beast, Jr. on The Cailloux Theater Stage. Based on the original, Tony Award winning production, this spectacular show will be seen July 26, 27 and 28.

Season 2019 continues with another new comedy, this one a bit moretraditional in style. Southern Fried Funeral lovingly skewers the sometimes complicated family relationships we all live with every day, when Dewey Frye’s widow must contend, not just with funeral plans, but with church committees and a brother-in-law who’s really a snake-in-the-grass. The fun starts Friday, August 9 in the VK Garage Theater.

The season will conclude with a piece that has been called “…the greatest American play ever written.” Thornton Wilder’s classic Our Town is well known, and P2K looks forward to putting a fresh shine on this script, which has been updated to reflect Wilder’s final notes.

The famous role of “Stage Manager” in Our Town will be performed by P2K’s own Jeffrey Brown. All other roles – just as they are in all P2K productions, will be cast from open auditions. Complete details on auditions dates and times is available online.
Single tickets for each Main Season production range from $22 to $27, with a child/student discount for musical events. Youth Theater single tickets are priced $10 for adults and $7 for children, except for the Summer Musical Theater Camp show, which is a bit higher.
Three money-saving Ticket Packages are available as well.
The Full Season Package provides one admission to each of the five Main Season productions at a cost of just $98 per person. Full Season Package holders save 15% over the cost of single tickets, and still determine which of the up to eight performance nights of each show best fits their schedule.
The Flex Package provides a set number of pre-paid admissions that can be used for any show and in any combination. The Flex Package is available in six-, eight-, and ten-admission sizes, and saves up to 12% when compared to single tickets.
A Youth Theater Package with tickets for each of the three Youth productions currently scheduled is just $35 for adults or $20 per child, and includes the Summer Musical Theater Camp production. Up to four children’s priced packages can be requested per adult package purchased. (This package will be available on line and at the Box Office very soon.)
As an additional benefit for singing up early, all new or renewing Season Package buyers can request up to four tickets to see the P2K Holiday Show “Nuncrackers” at a $5 per ticket discount.
Season Package buyers provide a real boost to our operations each year. By buying early, they provide much needed cash to make advance preparations for the new year, and a boost of energy to help all of the volunteers and staff look forward to a new season.  We hope you’ll consider getting your ticket order in soon!
