AUDITIONS: Impossible Marriage

The 20th Anniversary Season of your Playhouse 2000 will continue with a play by Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright Beth Henley that is almost exactly the same age as we are.

Impossible Marriage premiered on Broadway in October of 1998 at the famous Roundabout Theater Company, and starred Holly Hunter as “Floral.  It is a modern take on a very old style of comedy, and offers a variety of viewpoints on the institution of marriage – with an emphasis on the positive.

Director Jeffrey Brown will be looking for a group of 3 women and 4 men of varying ages at auditions on Sunday and Monday, April 22 and 23.  Times are 2:30 and 6:30, location the VK Garage Theater.

We will read from a provided script – no advance preparation is necessary.  Perusal copies are available for a three-day check out at the Cailloux Box Office or the P2K Office inside the VK Garage Theater.

Roles available include:

  • Kandall Kingsley, 50’s or so, the somewhat proper Mother of the bride,
  • Floral Whitman, 30’s, the pragmatic, pregnant Sister of the bride,
  • Pandora Kingsley, 20’s, the flighty, flirty bride,
  • Jonsey Whitman, 30’s, Floral’s too-attentive husband
  • Reverend Jonathan Larence, almost any age, the officiant at the wedding, and other complicating factors
  • Edvard Lunt, 50’s, the groom
  • Sidney Lunt, 20’s, the groom’s disapproving son.

The entire play takes place in Kandall’s garden on her country estate near Savannah – or maybe Austin – and will be “played in the round.”
