Crazy for You, a wonderful show featuring some of the greatest hits from the co-writers George and Ira Gershwin, is a modern adaptation of the 1930’s musical Girl Crazy with an updated book by Ken Ludwig.  It’s all about singing, dancing and “putting on a show!”

In 1992, Crazy for You played for 1,622 performances on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre starring Harry Groener and Jodi Benson.  The production earned  3 Tony Awards – for Musical, Choreographer and Costume Designer – 3 Outer Critics Circle Awards for Broadway Musical, Choreography, and Set/Costume/Lighting Design – and 2 Drama Desk Awards for Musical and Choreography.

We’ll be casting the following roles, including dancers and singers and a large and active chorus.

Principals

  • Bobby Child — an eager, energetic young man from New York in love with musical theater – Baritone – same age as Polly – should both sing and move well.
  • Polly Baker — a smart, strong postmistress in Deadrock, Nevada; “All American Girl” – Mezzo Soprano – same age as Bobby – should both sing and move well.
  • Irene Roth — a sophisticated but edgy New York society debutante – Mezzo Soprano – plays 20’s to 40’s
  • Lank Hawkins — the dour, cranky saloon proprietor in Deadrock, Nevada- Baritone – plays 20’s to 40’s
  • Bela Zangler — an imposing theatrical producer in New York with a Hungarian accent and good comic timing – Baritone – older than Bobby

  • Mrs. Lottie Child — Bobby’s business-oriented and controlling mother – a SPOKEN role
  • Tess — sassy showgirl and dance director; Zangler’s favorite – Mezzo/Alto – dancer
  • Eugene Fodor — an English tourist complete with accent – Baritone – about Zangler’s age
  • Patricia Fodor — Eugene’s proper British sister – Soprano
  • Everett Baker — Polly’s father – Baritone
